Nottingham can't wait for 'amazing' Winter Wonderland with aerial Sky Skate ice path

Excitement is building as plans for the 2022 Winter Wonderland Christmas celebration in Nottingham's Old Market Square featuring a new attraction were unveiled. Alongside the bars and 60 stalls selling gifts and treats to eat, there will be the new aerial Sky Skate ice path.

Fun seekers will be able to skate for 400m, metres above the crowds, and stop off along the way at the new Skate-Through bar. Hundreds of Nottinghamshire Live readers reacted to the new feature on Facebook.

Merissa Rippon said: "How cool" while Anastasia Jackiewicz posted "OMG YES!!" Kelly Ann commented: "OMG this will be amazing" and Stacey Wilson said: "Love this, it looks wicked."

Justine Marie Palmer added: "This picture makes it look like it has barbed wire along it like a prison haha! But excited to see it." Nick Halaburda commented: "Are crash helmets available?"

Amy Whysall isn't keen on skating herself but said: "Good to people watch." Julian Toop isn't enthralled by the five bars though at the event which will run from November 15 to December 31. As well as the Skate-Through bar, there will be Sur La Piste, Altitude, the Ice Bar and the Helter Skelter bar. "Hardly family-friendly but nice to see something a little bit different," he wrote.

Dwayne Windy is pleased for different reasons. He said: "Does this mean ordinary people who struggle to skate or can't skate can finally enjoy a year with access to the Christmas tree so we can enjoy a cup of eggnog or mulled wine during the Christmas festivities."

Not everyone could muster up enthusiasm though. Lee Simon Nigel Smith said: "I'll pass" and Helen Straw commented: "Can we not have something different same old same old gets a bit boring?" Lee Gavin posted: "Doesn't look much like Christmas with that high level skating track."

Kat Sinclair had an alternative suggestion. "Wish they would do a non ice summer version of this for rollerskates/rollerblades. Imagine this but not ice, I'd be on it all day."
