Nottingham body language expert's opinion on what Dancing on Ice's Sally Dynevor really feels

When Coronation Street star Sally Dynevor signed up to appear on Dancing on Ice 2022, she left the security of the 'street' for the scrutiny of the ITV show.

The actress was in the bottom two this week as she battled against Bez to retain a slot on the show.

As the judges voted to save the Corrie star following the skate off, many wondered what was she really thinking.

A Nottingham body language expert thinks he has some clues after analysing Sally's latest performance and her reaction when receiving feedback from the judges.

Darren Stanton, a former police officer, who since then has been dubbed the “Human Lie Detector” and also lists author and tv broadcaster among his talents, was speaking on behalf of Betfair Casino, when he revealed his insights into the star's performance.

The 58-year-old actress has been paired with skating partner Matt Evers for the show.

Darren said: "Sally is a celebrity that always gives her all and it’s clear she’s very grateful to be participating in the Dancing On Ice process. Slowly but surely her confidence is evolving and we’re seeing her skating alone on the ice much more, after being advised to do so by the judges - however, there are moments she is still relying on Matt as she tackles her nerves each week."

This week, fans spotted an 'awkward' moment during Dancing on Ice after Phillip Schofield commented on the lift that the judges had challenged Sally to and which she didn't quite make.

Mr Stanton observed: "I think this was her toughest week emotionally.

"When Sally was on the ice, there were masked emotions of frustration that flashed across her face - especially when she was due to carry out her unassisted lift.

"Sally seemed too nervous to do so and didn’t let go of Matt when she should have to execute the solo lift. Instead she remained gripped onto her partner, suggesting she still lacks confidence in her ability. It was obvious Sally was disappointed with her performance overall and felt she could have done better.

Darren added: "When host Phillip Schofield highlighted that she hadn’t completed the unassisted move, Sally appeared slightly taken aback and was left rocked by his comment.

"You’ll notice she took a slight step backwards - a sign she was psychologically distancing herself from the comment. A little speechless at first, she took a second before answering Phil and looked to Matt for reassurance, with Matt brushing over the critique by referring to Sally as a ‘national treasure’ and insisting he ‘couldn’t have her hurt’.

"As she listened to the judges’ feedback, Sally was trying to convey a brave face but her expressions didn’t align with her true emotion, as she was no doubt disappointed after receiving her lowest score yet in the competition.

"While her nerves on the ice could get the better of her, there’s no denying she truly loves being a part of the show and throws herself into training, always giving 100 percent.

"If Sally manages to work on her confidence, we could see huge improvements."
