Nottingham attack: Everything we know so far after three people killed as man is arrested

Police said they are keeping an 'open mind' as to the motive of a number of attacks after three people were killed and three others injured in Nottingham.

Officers were called to Ilkeston Road just after 4am after two people were killed. A third man was later found dead in Magdala Road.

The University of Nottingham said two of the victims were students at the university.

The force was also called to another incident in Milton Street, where a van had attempted to run over three people. One man is in hospital in a critical condition, while two others are believed to have suffered minor injuries,

Police said a 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a deadly rampage in the city on Tuesday morning and detectives are not looking for anyone else in connection with the violence.

Nottinghamshire Police Chief Constable Kate Meynell said the force is working with counter-terrorism investigators to establish what happened.

Here is what we know about Tuesday morning's events so far, as of 5.30pm:

  • Two people, aged 19, were found dead in Ilkeston Road shortly after 4am.
  • A white van attempted to run over three people on Milton Street shortly afterwards.
  • One man is in a critical condition with the two others believed to have suffered minor injuries.
  • A third person, in his 50s, was then found dead on Magdala Road.
  • Police believe the van used in the attack had been stolen from the older victim
  • One witness, Kane Brady, told GB News a man was pulled from a white Vauxhall Vivaro van on Bentinck Road at around 5.30am.
  • Police confirmed the driver of the van was stopped on Maple Street where they were tasered and detained.
  • A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder.
  • Police also confirmed they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the attacks.
  • Two of those killed were students at the University of Nottingham.
  • Police are keeping an “open mind” as to what the motives behind the attacks were and are working with counter-terrorism investigators to establish what happened.
  • Shortly before 1pm armed officers were seen a few hundred yards outside of the main cordon on Ilkeston Road, where they put two young women in the back of a marked police car.
  • The following roads are currently closed by police: Ilkeston Road, Milton Street, Magdala Road, Maples Street, Woodborough Road from junction of Magdala Road into the city, and the Maid Marian Way junction of Parliament Street.
