Nottingham actress Vicky McClure sadly missed out on one of the biggest British TV awards for her role in the locally filmed TV drama Without Sin. The star was up for Leading Actress in the BAFTAs alongside the crème de la crème in the acting world.
Before the award ceremony, Vicky tweeted: "I. Can. Not. Believe. This!" as the nominees were announced. Other contenders are Billie Piper (I Hate Suzie Too), Imelda Staunton (The Crown), Kate Winslet (I Am Ruth), Maxine Peake (Anne) and Sarah Lancashire (Julia)."
The Wollaton-born actress played the part of Stella Tomlinson, a grieving mother who meets the man accused of murdering her daughter in the psychological thriller. Vicky has previously triumphed at the BAFTAs (British Academy of Film and Television Arts). In 2011 she was crowned best actress for her role as Lorraine "Lol" Jenkins in This Is England '86.

Tonight, was not the night for Vicky though, as the Leading Actress Bafta was given to Kate Winslet for her performance in I Am Ruth, which sees a mother and daughter work through emotional turmoil. The 47-year-old actress: “(I am) guaranteed to be the one of the night to cry, I can’t see (my speech).”
She added that “small British television dramas can be mighty” and mental health stories such as this one “need to be heard”. Kate said: “If I could break it in half, I would give the other half to my daughter Mia Threapleton, we did this together, kiddo.”
Winslet added: “To people in power, please criminalise harmful content, we don’t want it… to any young person long person listening please ask for help, It will be there just ask for it.”
