Notre Dame offensive tackle Joe Alt officially declared for the 2024 NFL Draft Wednesday. This is significant as the Jets will undoubtedly be in the market for an offensive tackle, especially in the top ten of the draft, where they are currently projected to land. As expected, Alt will also skip Notre Dame’s bowl game. The Irish are playing in the Sun Bowl December 29 against Oregon State.

Alt will be in the mix to be the first offensive tackle selected in April along with Penn State’s Olu Fashanu. The Jets will have holes to fill at the tackle position and Alt will be a prime candidate to fill that void. Mekhi Becton and Duane Brown are both set to be free agents after the season.
The 6-foot-8, 322-pound tackle is a converted tight end who has the size, athleticism and power to be a long-term tackle option for any team, especially a team that certainly can use a left tackle like the Jets.
The Jets enter Week 15 holding the No. 7 pick in the draft, a potential prime spot to land Alt. Ahead of the Jets currently are the Bears twice — No. 1 pick from Carolina; their own pick at No. 5 — the Patriots, Cardinals, Commanders and Raiders.
