Riley Leonard showcased his versatility in the national championship game, leading Notre Dame with an impressive drive to kick off the game. Despite his standout performance, Leonard's efforts were not enough to secure a victory as Ohio State emerged triumphant with a 34-23 win.

Leonard played a pivotal role in Notre Dame's offense, accounting for three touchdowns by passing for 255 yards and two scores while also contributing 40 rushing yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. His leadership was evident in the opening drive, a grueling 18-play, 75-yard march down the field that lasted nearly 10 minutes.

During this drive, Leonard's determination was highlighted as he pointed to a scripture on his wristband, emphasizing the importance of humility and exaltation. However, despite his inspirational efforts, Notre Dame struggled to contain Ohio State's dynamic duo of quarterback Will Howard and running back Quinshon Judkins.

While Leonard's individual performance was commendable, the Fighting Irish faced challenges in keeping pace with the Buckeyes. Trailing 21-7 at halftime, Notre Dame's offense lacked the necessary support, with Leonard's teammates managing only eight yards on six carries in the first half.

Despite a valiant effort to stage a comeback, Notre Dame found themselves in a dire situation, trailing by three touchdowns. A failed fake punt attempt early in the second half further compounded their struggles, allowing Ohio State to extend their lead.

Although Notre Dame managed to narrow the gap with two late touchdown passes from Leonard to Jaden Greathouse, including a successful 2-point conversion, Ohio State's decisive plays ultimately sealed the victory. The Fighting Irish's 13-game winning streak came to an end, leaving them still in pursuit of their first national championship since 1988.

In a game marked by challenges, Notre Dame's resilience was evident, with fill-in starter Charles Jagusah stepping up in a critical role. Despite the setback, Coach Marcus Freeman's historic bid to become the first African American coach to win a national title fell short.

As Notre Dame reflects on this defeat, the team remains determined to continue their pursuit of championship glory in the future.
