With the 2024 NFL draft on the horizon, the NFL world has gathered in Mobile, Ala. this week for the 2024 Reese’s Senior Bowl. Teams will be watching how some of the top draft-eligible players across the country perform as they compete against each other in practices leading up to the all-star game.
The first day of practices are always interesting. Players and coaches are just getting to know each other, so it’s more of a light practice. Here is our notebook for the day from both the National and American Team practices:
National Team receivers/secondary
- WR Roman Wilson had a very nice first practice. His speed jumps out very quickly, but his hands also were a plus.
- WR Brenden Rice fought through a lot of contact to win his 1-on-1 drills.
- WR Ricky Pearsall also had a very good showing.
- CB Quinyon Mitchell was the most dominant defensive back. He won a lot of reps and did them handedly. CB Khyree Jackson was another defensive back that held his own during 1-on-1s. It was a tough day for the secondary, but these two did well.
National Team OL/DL, miscellaneous
- OT Taliese Fuaga had the best day of any offensive lineman. The right tackle was dominant all day long.
- TE Theo Johnson won a couple of reps, his size and speed combination will make him a valued prospect.
- We got some great 1-on-1 reps between DE Laiatu Latu and OT Kingsley Suamataia, the two split their reps in terms of wins. The type of competition you want to see out of two of the top players in Mobile.
- P Tory Taylor out of Iowa had a great showing today as a punter, he was booming punts all over the field.
- QBs Bo Nix and Michael Penix Jr. both had down days.
American Team practice notes
- OTs Patrick Paul and Jalen Guyton had the best days of the offensive line. Both looked stout in pass protection drills.
- DL Jordan Jefferson looks like his athleticism and strength combination could lead to success in the NFL.
- WR Ladd McConkey showcased his route running expertise.
- RB Cody Schrader had one of the better days for a running back. His vision is the key to his game.
- QB Joe Milton looked like the same player he has been. He has intriguing size and arm strength but was all over the place in terms of accuracy.
