NotebookLM, Google Labs’ experimental AI-driven notebook, is rolling out a new feature called Interactive Mindmaps. Simon, the lead at Google Labs, announced the feature on his personal X (formerly Twitter) account.

I'm so inspired by the Exploratorium here in SF – What if every notebook generated your own personal set of interactive understanding toys that help you learn through play? What if instead of text or images, Notebook could even… pic.twitter.com/fFJCGrv0kc
Simon also shared his inspiration for the feature, referencing the Exploratorium, a museum in San Francisco. He described the vision behind Interactive Mindmaps as creating “personal sets of interactive understanding toys” to help users learn through play. He also hinted at the broader potential of such tools, stating that 2025 marks “the era of apps just for you.”
While Google has yet to release official documentation, Simon’s description and the video suggest that Mindmaps will allow users to visualize information dynamically instead of relying solely on text or static images.
Mindmaps Rolling Out This Week
A user on X asked why Interactive Mindmaps were appearing on their free NotebookLM account but not on their paid one. Simon responded, clarifying, “Rolling out over this week!” This suggests that the feature will soon be available across all accounts.
On a similar note, Google recently added NotebookLM Plus to its Google One AI Premium plan. This premium tool plan gives higher usage limits and features for more customized research. It adds to the existing plan benefits like Gemini Advanced, Gemini in Gmail, Docs, and more, plus 2 TB of storage.
Furthermore, NotebookLM’s iconic ‘Audio Overview’ feature is now integrated directly into Google Gemini on web and mobile apps. This feature creates podcast-style audio discussions from research.
