Two Wrongs, the Melbourne nightclub that thought it was acceptable to have native animals be passed around its premises like a child playing pass the parcel, will be investigated by authorities. Good.
ICYMI, Two Wrongs held an event on Saturday night and posted a heap of Instagram Stories showing influencers posing with baby crocodiles and snakes. It goes without saying, a nightclub is not a place reptiles should be.
Two Wrongs — which is a fucking interesting name given the circumstances, isn’t it — realised they’d made a grave error in judgement and deleted any evidence of the animals in their Instagram Stories.
But we got screenshots before they did.
On Monday afternoon, Victoria’s Conservation Regulator confirmed it was investigating the matter.
“The Conservation Regulator is investigating reports of a nightclub in South Yarra allowing visitors to handle native reptiles,” a spokesperson said, per Yahoo! News.
“Anyone with information about this incident or cases of wildlife crime is urged to contact Crime Stoppers Victoria.”
It comes after social media users and wildlife advocates alike expressed their outraged over the fact native reptiles were being used as promotional tools by the South Yarra nightclub.
“Animals aren’t props to be passed around in a busy nightclub,” one user said on an Instagram post shared by Two Wrongs — before the venue disabled comments on all its posts.
“Use of animals as promotional tools in an incredibly frightening environment for them is disgusting and cruel,” another wrote.
On Sunday, animal rights advocate Bailey Mason said he had contacted Two Wrongs over their exploitation of wild animals. He shared a screenshot of the venue’s response to his Instagram Story.
“We did our due diligence with the animal events company and they ensured the environment was safe,” Two Wrongs told Mason.
“But we take your feedback very seriously and upon reflection on the event we will not be having animals in the bar for future events like these.”
Mason also shared an Instagram Story revealing that “many of the influencers” who attended the event had messaged him saying they regretted getting papped holding the “terrified animals”. As they fucking should, I say.
Influencer Updates AU shared a TikTok on Monday featuring now-deleted photos from Morgan Waterhouse and Mick Maio‘s Instagram Stories which showed the fellas holding the poor reptiles. Aussie Influencer Opinions also shared the photos to Instagram. Doing the Lord’s work, I tell you.
It’s honestly concerning how many influencers posed with the reptiles and shared the content to their social media channels. Some of this footage was on Two Wrongs’ Instagram Stories for more than twelve hours before the venue removed it.
Similarly disturbing was a statement shared on Monday by the company which organised the Two Wrongs event.
“Fun Saturday… Thanks for rocking out with us. Xx lyla,” event organiser Champagne Lyla wrote on Instagram, accompanied by a photo of Corey Worthington from *that* A Current Affair interview.
That’s all you have to say? Fucking charming, folks. Glad to see you take concerns over animal welfare seriously.
Reptile Party Melbourne, which supplied Two Wrongs with the reptiles, has refused to take down photos of the putrid event, despite being inundated with comments calling the company out.
“If you actually gave a damn about animals, you wouldn’t allow them to be exploited for a nightclub launch of all things. This is foul,” one person said.
“The humans are smiling in all the pictures but the animals want nothing to do with any of you. These wild animals belonged in their natural habitats, not in cages, tanks or any type of confinement. Stop exploiting animals for entertainment and pleasure,” wrote another.
