Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said on Monday that an all-party meeting would soon be convened on conducting caste-based census in the State.
Mr. Kumar said he had already informed the Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Tejashwi Yadav about this.
“Party representatives can give their suggestions at the meeting. It will be followed by Cabinet approval, and modalities like how many officials to deploy etc. will also be worked out”, he told media persons in Patna. “ Zyada der nahi lagega [it will not take long]”, he said.
The all-party meeting could have taken place earlier, but “other engagements kept us all busy”, he added.
Earlier, a delegation of leaders from all parties in Bihar, including Mr. Kumar, had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the issue, but a Minister in the Union Cabinet later said it was not possible for the Centre to hold caste census as “it will create rift in the society”.
