A man accused of killing a mother-of-four by running her down with a car on a rural property has pleaded not guilty to murder.

James Kenneth Austin, 38, appeared briefly in Hobart Magistrates Court on Thursday in relation to the incident at Campania, about 35km northeast of Hobart, on March 13.

Jacqui Bergman, who has also used the last name Purton, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Austin entered a not guilty plea to one count of murder and will next appear in the Supreme Court of Tasmania on June 14.

It's alleged he hit Ms Bergman with his vehicle, causing her death.

Austin is also facing unrelated offences from November 2022, including driving while disqualified and possessing the drug methylamphetamine.

Those matters were adjourned without plea.
