Bruno Guimaraes remained proud of his Newcastle United teammates after their gut-wrenching defeat to Liverpool. Despite referee Andre Marriner adding five minutes of stoppage time, the Reds scored in the 98th minute to snatch a 2-1 win and all three points in the dying embers.
It ultimately proved the last kick of the contest and Newcastle players were visibly dejected at the full-time whistle. To add salt to their wounds, record signing Alexander Isak had a second debut strike ruled out for a controversial offside.
After the game, Guimaraes - who was ruled out of the defeat with a “niggling” injury - insisted the Magpies did not deserve to lose. The Brazilian tweeted: “Unbelievable performance of the boys! Proud of my team! (We did) not deserve to lose the game in the last minutes.”

Co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi was far more incensed, echoing the sentiments of many Newcastle supporters. He posted: “So proud of that team, they left everything on the pitch and deserved a point. (An absolute joke to end that way.”
Toon fans went to bed unhappy after watching their side suffer a crushing defeat - their first of the season so far. However, returning to St James’ Park to face Crystal Palace offers the perfect chance to get back on the win column.
@NeilSehmby: Fought like lions. Fourth week and fourth dodgy decision against us Mehrdad. Top 6 are rattled. We are so close to them it's a joke. Appreciate everything you and the team are doing.
@AngelNUFC: Should have been out of sight 2-0 up, Isak's second was clearly onside, just hilarious at this stage how VAR/Refs screwed us.
@PhilCowen5: Totally agree Mehrdad. Proud of our boys. Dust down and move on to our next win.
