'Not an upgrade' - Frank Lampard warned over move for Manchester United forward Anthony Elanga

Paul Robinson believes Frank Lampard should steer clear of any potential advances for Manchester United forward Anthony Elanga.

Elanga, 20, has failed to make an impression for the Reds so far this season, with big-money signing Antony largely preferred on the right side of United's attack and Marcus Rashford a clear first pick off the left. Elanga is yet to open his account for the 22/23 campaign and has been linked with a possible move away.

Everton have been linked with a move for Elanga, with the Goodison Park club currently bidding to stave off relegation from the Premier League. Elanga was an unused sub during United's 3-1 win over Everton on Friday.

Lampard's former England teammate Robinson has given his verdict on the matter, insisting that Everton's existing options are at least on a par with Elanga. ''I’m not so sure he [Elanga] is an upgrade on Demarai Gray or Anthony Gordon,'' Robinson said during an interview with Football Insider.

“He has not really made it at United. He has amazing pace and has had good moments but he is a squad player for them. I’m not sure he’d make an immediate impact on that Everton team. That is what Everton need. They need someone who is going to score the goals to keep them up.

“I would be focused on signing a striker if I was them. I think they have enough in the wide areas to get to the end of the season.”
