'Not acceptable' - Karl Robinson's claim about Bolton Wanderers' winning goal vs Oxford United

Karl Robinson lamented the way his Oxford United side lost against Bolton as he branded Wanderers' winning goal as 'not acceptable'.

Wanderers went behind early on at the Kassam Stadium due to Billy Bodin's great free-kick, but Declan John equalised immediately afterwards as Bolton drew level.

Bodin struck again for the second time later on in the first, but Marlon Fossey drew Wanderers level again for the second time in the encounter after half-time.

The game looked like it was heading towards the spoils being shared, but Amadou Bakayoko struck before full-time to give Wanderers all three points for a huge win against the U's as Bolton went seven games unbeaten and are currently eight points from the play-offs.

The goal came from an Oxford corner as Wanderers took advantage of the hosts being out of their usual positions with Gethin Jones threading a lovely through ball to Fossey, whose teasing cross was slotted home by Bakayoko.

And the U's boss was 'infuriated' with the way his side lost and the circumstances surrounding Bolton's key winning goal.

Robinson told the club YouTube channel: “People will talk about conceding in the way that we did. It comes from a ridiculous corner that wasn’t meant to happen. The keeper claims it and then all of sudden you’re out of position and they hurt you. We had three or four opportunities to hurt them in the second half but we never did.

“The biggest disappointment was going a goal up and conceding and then we got back to 2-1 and they pegged us back again. We’ve got to find them moments in these bigger games when we go ahead to stay ahead. It’s the first time I felt that we had complete control of this game for large periods of it.

“We know we conceded three is not good and you’re not going to win games if you concede three goals. We speak about the way we play but that’s not a style or formation, their last goal. The first four goals were outstanding finishes, there wasn’t many defensive mistakes that actually put us in that bad position.

“The one defensive mistake was when we were in random positions that they hit us on the break and scored the goal from a corner and that’s not acceptable. That’s the bit that infuriates me.

“I thought the atmosphere was good, I thought the players gave everything as they always do. We missed one or two good chances and they took their one chance in the second half.

“I just felt that when we were on top we needed to score. They’re a good team who are in good form. I thought all the players contributed really well. I don’t think anyone had that much of a bad game that you’d start asking questions.

“It was not a bad team performance without the result against a team that have dominated most teams they’ve played in the last six or seven games, so I’m infuriated with that.”
