Social media influencers, reality stars, and TV personalities were among the guests at the wedding of Norwegian Princess Märtha Louise and American self-professed shaman Durek Verrett. The couple tied the knot in the picturesque town of Geiranger, Norway, following three days of festivities.
The wedding ceremony took place in a large white tent set up on a lush lawn, with Norwegian and US artists performing, along with a gospel choir and a singer representing Norway’s indigenous Sámi people. The event was described as a blend of Hollywood glamour and Norwegian charm.
The couple sold the wedding photo rights to British magazine Hello! and the film rights to Netflix, sparking protests from Norwegian media for going against local practices. Märtha Louise and Verrett have faced criticism for their alternative beliefs and actions.
King Harald, Queen Sonja, and other members of the Norwegian royal house attended the wedding, while representatives from the Swedish royal house were also present. The absence of other European royals at the event comes amidst waning support for the Norwegian royals.
Princess Märtha Louise, fourth in line to the Norwegian throne, announced in 2022 that she would no longer officially represent the royal house. She has claimed to communicate with angels, while Verrett asserts he communicates with spirits and possesses a medallion for protection and healing.
The couple, engaged in 2022, agreed not to use Märtha Louise's royal connections for commercial gain. However, the princess faced backlash for labeling gin bottles with her title, a move later rectified following King Harald's directive against profiting from her royal status.
Märtha Louise, who has three children from her previous marriage, divorced in 2017, has retained her royal title despite stepping back from official duties. Verrett will not hold a royal title or responsibilities following their marriage.
