Northumberland bakery offers the chance to throw your own mouth-watering Mad Hatter tea party

The Northumberland bakers behind a popular Harry Potter-themed afternoon tea range have launched a new mouth-watering selection inspired by another children’s book classic.

Curiously Wicked, a team of bakers based in New Hartley specialising in luxury afternoon tea, offered Tea Who Shall Not Be Named to customers back in January. The Wizarding World-inspired treats, including chocolate brownie spell books and Golden Snitch truffles, went down a storm with fans of the franchise.

Now the bakery has launched its latest range of tempting treats, this time drawing inspiration from Lewis Carroll’s tale Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Their Easter special selection allows fans of the classic the chance to take on the role of the famous Mad Hatter, with snacks inspired by the book’s iconic tea party scene.

The quirky bites included in the selection range from a ‘Don’t Be Late’ macaron decorated to resemble a pocket watch just like the one worn by the White Rabbit, to a chocolate checkerboard torte and heart-shaped strawberry Jammy Dodger alluding to the evil Queen of Hearts.

No fewer than eight delicious desserts are on the Mad Hatter menu, with the likes of a handmade sherbet lollipop, a Valencian orange truffle log, and a ‘Tweedledee’ lemon éclair sure to satisfy sweet tooths. A unique highlight to tuck into is the life-sized fully edible plant pot, containing a key lime posset with edible soil.

The selection also features its own Drink Me Potion, just like the one Alice drinks to shrink herself in the novel, as a base that can be mixed with gin or water. Afternoon tea classics are also on the menu, from a selection of sandwiches to scones served with homemade jam and clotted cream, with flavours including three-cheese and orange and elderflower.

The Mad Hatter selection is available to order from the Curiously Wicked website for a delivery date up until April 16. Priced at £52 for two people or £148.20 for six, this unique afternoon tea is delivered straight to your door so customers can host their very own Mad Hatter’s tea party at home.

Harry Potter fans will be pleased to hear that the bakery has also recently announced a new limited run of Tea Who Shall Not Be Named. The popular magical afternoon tea can now be ordered for delivery on April 30 and May 1.
