The man killed in a helicopter crash in the Northern Territory's east Arnhem Land earlier this week has been identified as a prominent livestock industry figure whose family has been in the industry for decades.
Norm Fisher, 47, died when a helicopter he was flying crashed south of Ramingining on Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities said he was the pilot and sole occupant of the vehicle, and died at the scene.
A buffalo and cattle producer, Mr Fisher was a member of a prominent family in the NT's livestock industry.
The Fisher family has been involved in the buffalo industry since the 1980s and own three stations — Swim Creek, Mary River East and Wombungi — in the Top End.
In a statement, the NT Buffalo Industry Council (NTBIC) said the community was in mourning following the death of "one of its most significant businessmen".
"Norman was a driving force in the Fisher family's extensive buffalo, cattle and contract mustering operations," the statement said.
"The 47-year-old had also built up a large commercial presence in the crocodile industry and maintained significant land management partnerships with Traditional Owners in areas like Ramingining – the location of his tragic death."
Council president Adrian Philips said Mr Fisher's death had sent shockwaves through the industry.
"Norm was a once-in-a-lifetime operator. He is truly irreplaceable," he said.
"In terms of his role in the Fisher family and his presence across the industry, it's impossible to measure the sense of loss that we're all feeling this week.
"Norm built an incredible legacy which we know will live on proudly, especially in his children."
In a statement issued the day after the crash, the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) said the Robinson R22 Mr Fisher was driving crashed into terrain.
"The pilot and sole occupant of the helicopter was fatally injured, and the helicopter was destroyed in the accident," chief commissioner Angus Mitchell said.
The crash is being investigated both by the ATSB and NT Police.
Mr Mitchell said ATSB investigators would survey and map the accident site and send relevant material to Canberra for analysis.
Mr Fisher's is the second death in Arnhem Land from a helicopter crash this year, after prominent Outback Wrangler cast member Chris "Willow' Wilson was killed in a helicopter crash in February.
