Railway provider Northern Rail is offering trips on one of the most scenic train routes in the world as part of its flash sale. With millions of tickets for as little as 50p, £1 and £1.50, there’s no excuse for not exploring the region.
The sale, which runs until January 13, includes routes across the North East and north west. Passengers could use the fares to enjoy a day out in Carlisle taking in the castle and its ancient city walls or hit the shops in Newcastle for less than the price of a cup of coffee.
Included in the mega sale is one of the best-rated scenic train journeys in the world. Praised by Conde Nast as one of the best, the Carlisle to Settle train line is an hour and a half of some of the most beautiful countryside in the north, and you can take it all in for just 50p.

How to get tickets for Newcastle to Settle for just £4
While there is no direct train from Newcastle to Settle, passengers can enjoy the scenic riverside views from Newcastle to Carlisle and change in the city for the journey to Settle. During the journey, travellers could enjoy a spot of breakfast in Carlisle before hopping on the train to Settle. Spend the day in the beautiful market town and head back home at the end of the day happy with your budget day out.
Return tickets between Newcastle and Carlisle are available in the Northern Rail flash sale for £1.50 each way. While return tickets between Carlisle and Settle are on offer for just 50p each way, making the whole journey just £4 per person.
There are a number of dates available for this deal with times throughout the day, though mid-week days are your best bet. However, if you’re tempted to go for it then you best move fast as the cheapest fares are being snapped up quickly.
