Northern line delays: Normal service resumes after rush-hour chaos following signal failure

Balham station became overcrowded as commuters sought alternate routes (Picture: @hannahchrstina/Twitter)

Normal service has returned to the Northern line after commuters faced chaos this morning.

Trains were back to normal by 2pm after signal failure at Kennington.

Earlier on Monday, there were no trains between Moorgate and Kennington southbound, and service was also suspended between Charing Cross and Kennington, but service was restored around 9am.

Some stations, including Balham, were closed amid overcrowding, with many complaining on social media.

Delays affected the rest of the line, with many travellers forced to seek alternative routes.

One angry commuter said: "Please don’t say there are severe delays @northernline and that the line is working with large delays.

"Closing a station and making people get a bus to Canons Park to get the jubilee line isn’t severe - it’s a joke. And on a Monday morning as well! #ffs #tfhell #mondaymood"

Transport for London advised passengers to avoid the line and use other routes where possible.
