Northern Ireland weather warning for heavy and persistent rain over weekend

Heavy and persistent rain has been forecast for Northern Ireland this weekend.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain from 6pm on Friday, August 30, until 9am on Saturday, August 31.

It is understood heavy, persistent rain is expected to affect parts of the country - in particular counties Antrim, Tyrone, Fermanagh, and Derry -  through Friday evening and into Saturday morning.

A forecaster for the Met Office said: "Outbreaks of rain will become heavy and persistent through Friday evening and the early hours of Saturday. Accumulations of 20-30 mm are expected quite widely with isolated 40-50 mm possible across western and northern hills. The rain will clear eastwards through Saturday morning."

So don't forget the umbrella this weekend.
