Northern Ireland weather: Met Office maps show when lightning is expected and where

A yellow thunderstorm warning for parts of Northern Ireland comes into place at midday on Tuesday.

It covers Co Fermanagh, Co Tyrone, Co Derry and Co Armagh and will remain in place until 9pm on June 13.

A prior weather warning was in place until 9pm on Monday.

Here is when and where stormier weather is expected over the next few days according to the Met Office's weather map, taken just after 8am on Tuesday, June 13:

Tuesday, June 13 at 1pm

Unsettled conditions predicted for Derry.

Tuesday, June 13 at 5pm

Similar conditions continue in Belcoo around 6pm and 7pm, when it's then set to turn brighter.

Thursday, June 15 at 4pm

Unsettled weather expected in Strabane and Derry.

For Tuesday's warning, the forecaster said: "Thunderstorms developing Tuesday afternoon may bring some disruption."

It added: "Although some places will miss them, thunderstorms are likely to develop over parts of Northern Ireland and northwestern Scotland from early Tuesday afternoon.

"These will be fairly slow moving with the potential for large rainfall amounts in a short period of time. 20-30 mm of rain may fall in an hour or less in a few spots with perhaps 40-50 mm possible if successive showers affect the same location.

"Frequent lightning is also likely to be a hazard along with hail."
