Northern Ireland weather forecast for the weekend ahead

The weather is expected to be dry with sunny spells on Friday as we head into the weekend.

According to the Met Office, any early cloud on Friday morning will soon disperse to leave a warm, dry and sunny day but light easterly winds will keep eastern coasts cooler.

A maximum temperature of 22°C is forecast and the good news is that temperatures are on the rise again this weekend.

But while it will feel warm and more humid over the coming days, change is on the way. After a sunny start on Saturday, some heavy showers are expected to develop in the afternoon before easing by the end of the day.

There's also the risk of a possible thunderstorm in places.

Looking ahead to Sunday, it'll be cloudy with further showers in the afternoon, some likely to be thundery before once again easing by the end of the day.

Monday looks likely to be a more settled day with variable amounts of cloud and the odd light shower as the warmer trend continues.

Meanwhile, Storm Oscar, which has been named by the Spanish Meteorological Service (AEMET), will not be impacting the UK, though it will help to drive the warm plume of air.

The good news is that the sunshine is expected to return by next week.

Here's what to expect over the next few days, according to the Met Office.

Friday:

Any early cloud soon disperses to leave a warm, dry and sunny day. Light easterly winds keep eastern coasts cooler. Maximum temperature 22 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Dry with sunny spells on Saturday but also becoming very warm and humid. Increasing risk of heavy showers breaking out on Saturday night and during Sunday. Showers will become more isolated on Monday.

UK long range weather forecast - Tuesday 13 June - Thursday 22 June

A steady settling down of conditions when taking the UK as a whole, the scattered showers and thunderstorms tending to become more focussed in the far west by the start of the period and probably becoming dry/settled UK-wide quite quickly.

These conditions are likely to persist for some time, although by the latter part of the week, and to the end of the period, there will be a gradually increasing risk of showers arriving either from the south or the east.

Winds are most likely to be fairly light, with sea breezes developing. Temperatures widely above average for the time of year, by day and by night, with western areas likely seeing the warmest conditions overall.
