Northern Ireland teen Shea Charles helps Manchester City close in on double-treble

Northern Ireland teenager Shea Charles has helped Manchester City close in on a double-treble this season.

Charles was part of City's Elite Development Squad that clinched the Premier League 2 title last Friday night.

The Under 23 side were crowned following a 3-1 win at Leeds United which was played in front of 21,000 fans at Elland Road, giving coach Brian Barry-Murphy success in his first season in charge.

They have scored 58 goals and recorded a league low of 32 conceded.

Charles, 18, played 22 games for the Under 23s after being promoted from City's Under 18 ranks.

He told Manchester City's website: "When you go into the new season after a (title) win, everyone is coming after you, and I think we have stood up to the challenge every game.

“It’s a great feeling for the whole team.

“Throughout the whole season we’ve pushed as a team and individually as well and it’s good to come out with a trophy.”

City complete their league campaign at home to Everton on Friday night when they will be presented with the trophy.

City fans have been offered free tickets for the game to ensure a bumper crowd gets to witness the young side's coronation.

Charles had earlier featured for City's U18s who defended their regional Premier League title this week after nearest rivals Liverpool fell to a 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Ben Wilkinson's side have now successfully retained their title won last year, and will progress to a one-off national final to be crowned U18 Premier League champion.

Pep Guardiola's senior squad also remain on course to retain their league title - they lead Liverpool by just one point with just five games remaining this season.

If the U18 and senior teams prevail it will make it a sensational double-treble for City.
