Northern Ireland further weather warning for some areas issued by Met Office

A further weather warning for parts of Northern Ireland has been issued.

The yellow thunderstorm warning from the Met Office comes into place at midday on Tuesday, June 13, until 9pm on the same day.

It covers Co Fermanagh, Co Tyrone, Co Derry and Co Armagh.

A previous yellow thunderstorm warning issued is in place from midday on Monday, June 12, until 9pm, with western counties Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry most likely to be affected.

For the new warning, the forecaster said: "Thunderstorms developing Tuesday afternoon may bring some disruption."

It added: "Although some places will miss them, thunderstorms are likely to develop over parts of Northern Ireland and northwestern Scotland from early Tuesday afternoon.

"These will be fairly slow moving with the potential for large rainfall amounts in a short period of time. 20-30 mm of rain may fall in an hour or less in a few spots with perhaps 40-50 mm possible if successive showers affect the same location.

"Frequent lightning is also likely to be a hazard along with hail."

And for Monday's forecast, the Met Office said: "Mainly dry start with some sunshine. Showers developing during the morning with a few heavy showers likely in the afternoon. Some areas will remain dry. Staying very warm. Maximum temperature 25C.

"Most showers will die out in the evening to leave a mainly dry and clear night for the area, light winds too. Minimum temperature 12C."

And for Tuesday, the forcaster added: "A dry and bright morning with a few afternoon showers developing inland but these very isolated, Maximum temperature 27C."

For Wednesday to Friday, mainly dry and settled weather is expected to continue with sunny spells.
