Here is a Northern Ireland consumer advocate and personal finance expert's guide for 'the ultimate financial detox' in 2023.
Connor McAuley created foundered.co.uk which is a consumer-focused website dedicated 'to supporting those who want to earn more, save more and put their money to work for them'.
He says: "For the past 10 years I have been educating myself about all aspects of personal finance and now have the time to put this knowledge towards educating and helping others also."

Connor has explained that a financial detox may be good for those who want to achieve financial goals, pay off or stay out of debt.
Explaining what a financial detox is, he said: "Have you ever tried to eat healthier, drink more water and remove toxins from your body? Often we think about these things after a period of over-indulgence, like Christmas or summer holidays. When deciding to detox, we make our best efforts to change the negative habits and to live a healthier/better life.
"Much like a health-focused detox, a financial detox looks at how you can reset or create better money habits, control your spending, and remove those unnecessary expenses that have crept into your budget each month."
Connor has also explained that choosing to make money a non taboo subject will allow you to tackle challenges head-on.
"It’s important that we break the stigma around money talk and normalise speaking about it. Being ‘money positive’ will improve communication around money in our lives and relationships, and this will make achieving our goals easier," the consumer advocate added.
Four steps Connor covers in his guide to a financial detox:
1. Mindset
2. Planning
3. Understand your personal finances
4. Tackle Debt
