Northern Ireland couple launch own cloth nappy brand

A Northern Ireland couple have this week launched their own cloth nappy brand.

Husband and wife Rebecca and Liam Grant from Lisburn started trying to live more sustainably a number of years ago.

The pair, who are parents to a toddler, have now created their own online brand, Cosy & Fair, which offers cloth nappies, starter kits and more.

The business went live on April 21. Reusable Nappy Week is taking place between April 24 to 30.

Rebecca told Be: "As far as [we] know we are Northern Ireland’s first cloth nappy brand, we are very excited about that!

"When our first child came along we knew we wanted to use reusable nappies. We had a few struggles at the beginning, but once we got in the swing of it we became completely sold on them. There were so many great benefits but yet on the grand scale of things, most people didn’t know much about them.

"We wanted to provide a top quality, beautiful nappy while being part of the movement towards a more sustainable future, so that’s exactly what we did."

The couple both have a background in retail and customer care and are hoping they can transfer those skills into running their own business.

Rebecca said the process of creating Cosy & Fair has taken around seven months.

She added: "We have put a lot of work into, not just the aesthetics, but also into the functionality by only including premium materials and features to set ourselves apart from other brands.

"People still think of thick towels with safety pins when they think of cloth nappies but they have come so far since then. They’re easy to put on (using poppers not pins), slim fitting and the care for them is so much easier as our washing machines are so good these days - they do the work for you."

Rebecca continued: "It has been much harder work than we anticipated, especially working it [around] family life, but we’re glad to have got to where we are now. Still lots more work ahead though!"

The Lisburn mum said the reaction to their new venture has been "overwhelmingly positive" so far.

"We especially love how surprised people are to see what a cloth nappy is today!

"It’s something people think is very daunting until they see them and chat to us about them," she added.
