Northern Ireland castle to host Red Bull obstacle course

An extreme obstacle course run by Red Bull will be taking place in the picturesque surroundings of a Co Fermanagh castle later this year.

The energy drinks company will bring its ‘Conquer the Castle’ event to Castle Irvine near Irvinestown on Saturday 6 May.

The event follows on from previous castle events in Cashel, Co Tipperary and will be the only race of its kind in Northern Ireland.

Conquer the Castle is open to anyone over 16 to compete, with prizes for the top three finishers in the race.

A description for the race says local people will take on everything from ‘muddy crawls to monkey bars’ in the obstacle race.

“From muddy crawls to monkey bars and balance beams to stone wall crossings, competitors will tackle the parklands of the 19th century Castle Irvine course, which is 3.5km in length, with upwards of 25 outdoor obstacles or try to overcome the lung busting series of 20 plus obstacles in Cashel, as they attempt to ‘Conquer the Castle’,” it says.

“There is no point in pacing yourself, as these courses will be full tilt from start to finish proving to be a real test, even for the most determined.”
