Northern Ireland bank holiday dates 2023 with the potential for an extra day

As we are coming closer to the end of the year, many will be wondering what the bank holiday dates for 2023 are.

If a bank holiday is on a weekend, a ‘substitute’ weekday becomes a bank holiday, normally the following Monday, Gov.uk say.

Here is list of the bank holiday dates next year in Northern Ireland.

  • Monday January 2, New Year’s Day (substitute day)
  • Friday March 17, St Patrick’s Day
  • Friday April 7, Good Friday
  • Monday April 10, Easter Monday
  • Monday May 1, Early May bank holiday
  • Monday May 29, Spring bank holiday
  • Wednesday July 12, Battle of the Boyne
  • Monday August 28, Summer bank holiday
  • Monday December 25, Christmas Day
  • Tuesday December 26, Boxing Day

In addition to these dates, there is a possibility of an extra bank holiday to mark King Charles III's Coronation, reports Bristol Live.

The coronation is due to take place on Saturday, May 6. The Palace has yet to announce if there will be a bank holiday for the King's Coronation or not.

The remaining bank holiday dates for 2022 in NI are Monday December 26, Boxing Day and Tuesday, December 27 as a substitute day for Christmas Day.
