Northampton reveal Wales captain Dan Biggar in a knee brace as doubts grow over his autumn Test hopes

Northampton have revealed that Dan Biggar is currently in a knee brace as doubts grow over the Welsh fly-half's involvement in the autumn campaign.

The English club released a statement on Thursday revealing that Biggar was having a knee injury assessed by a specialist following the win at Wasps last week.

Biggar, who captained Wales during this year's Six Nations and summer tour, won't feature for the Premiership club this month, putting his involvement in Wales' four match autumn campaign in real jeopardy.

Those concerns for Wayne Pivac have grown further as more detail was given on Biggar's injury after Northampton's win over Newcastle.

Northampton boss Phil Dowson said: “Dan is going to get more specialist advice in terms of what that knee looks like and at the moment it is obviously difficult to know how long that will be. He is taking it day by day, but he is going to take it easy and he is in a knee brace.

"In terms of how long, probably weeks, but I don’t know to be honest and we will wait for the specialist.”

Wayne Pivac names his squad for the autumn fixtures against New Zealand, Argentina, Georgia and Australia on Tuesday. With Biggar looking increasingly unlikely and Gareth Anscombe also carrying a knock, the likes of Callum Sheedy, Jarrod Evans and Sam Costelow could be in line for a call-up.
