North West 200 rider withdraws from event due to 'personal reasons'

North West 200 rider Dominic Herbertson has withdrawn from this week's event due to "personal reasons", his team has announced.

Herbertson was due to ride for Northern Ireland’s Wilson Craig Honda in the Superstock and Superbike classes.

The team released a statement on Wednesday night saying it was with "deep regret" that the 32-year-old had withdrawn from the international event, ahead of the opening night's racing on Thursday.

The statement read: "It is with regret to announce that Dominic Herbertson has had to withdraw from this year's North West 200 due to personal reasons.

"Dominic has our full support and we would ask that everyone would respect his privacy."

Team owner Darren Gilpin added: "We were looking forward to this weekend with Dom, however his personal well-being is more important. We wish him well, and hopefully he will be back on track soon."

It has been confirmed that Herbertson will be replaced for the remainder of the North West 200 by French rider Amalric Blanc.

Blanc - who was the fastest newcomer at last year's Manx Grand Prix - had been left without a bike after his own machine failed during Tuesday's practice.

Thursday's schedule

  • Practice: Roads closed 9.15am to 3.15pm
  • Race One: Strain Engineering Supersport (6 laps) 5.45pm
  • Race Two: Briggs Equipment Superstock (6 laps) 6.30pm
  • Race Three: Milltown Service Station Supertwin (4 laps) 7.15pm
