A North East Conservative council group has called on Boris Johnson to resign as Prime Minister amidst controversy regarding parties held at Downing Street during lockdown.
North Tyneside Conservative Council Group (NTCCG) - fronted by Coun Sean Brockbank - held a meeting earlier this week, as the row over lockdown parties at No 10 continues.
Mr Johnson has insisted that “nobody told me that what we were doing was against the rules” and he believed he was attending a work event.

But a majority vote has left Coun Brockbank formally writing to Boris Johnson, asking him to 'consider' his position not only Leader of the Conservative Party, but also as Prime Minister.
Cllr Brockbank last night (18 January) took to social media, revealing the letter he has written to the PM after the conclusion of the NTCCG's vote.
In a Tweet, he announced: "I have today written to the Prime Minister on behalf of the North Tyneside Conservative Council Group."
The letter reads: "Dear Prime Minister,
"Your 2019 landslide victory was the best result for our party in over thirty years and you have since secured a bold Brexit deal which has taken back control of our laws, borders and money.
"You have also led one of the most successful vaccine programmes in the world, meaning our country will be one of the first to exit this pandemic.
"There are a great many more achievements too that this government should be proud of, which is why it is with a heavy heart that I am writing this letter on behalf of the North Tyneside Conservative group."
The letter continues: "At our group meeting this week, it was agreed, by majority vote, that we should write to ask you consider your position as Prime Minister and leader of the Conservative Party.
"The ongoing furore around parties at Downing Street and breaches of Covid rules has overshadowed not only the government's agenda, but also the good work of Conservative Councillors here and across the UK.
"It is for this reason that we have reached the conclusion it is in the interests of the party, and the country, that you consider your position.
Yours faithfully, Cllr Sean Brockbank."
This news comes after a Senior Conservative backbencher reportedly told ITV's Paul Brand that they are 'confident of getting to 54 letters' today in a bid to 'oust' the Prime Minister.
It is also reported by Wales Online, that a growing number of the PM's own MPs are furious at his handling of the 'partygate' scandal engulfing Westminster.
