North Tyneside theatre group preparing for debut performance

A theatre group is gearing up for its debut performance in North Tyneside.

Round Table Theatre Cub will take to the stage on Friday November 11 and Saturday November 12.

Stuart McVeigh and Scott Sloan founded Round Table Theatre Club in early 2020 after both having bad experiences with other theatre clubs. Now they are preparing for their debut performance at The Exchange in North Shields.

Mr McVeigh, the general manager, said: "We wanted to create a club where everyone gets a chance and are treated equally."

As a company, they aim to "produce plays that are brand new and/or locally written" which will in turn help the theatre scene in the North East to grow.

They are also planning on producing plays that appear on the curriculum, in order to form links with high-schools, colleges and universities and in turn benefit English and Drama students, as well as members of extracurricular performing arts groups. The group was formed in an effort to stop the trend of many long-standing local clubs and societies folding as a result of Covid-19.

The idea for their upcoming show originated in 1996 when Stuart was in college but was shelved for over 20 years. It was when Stuart met Scott Sloan at another theatre group, and they attempted to write together that the idea came up in conversation. Work on it began in 2018 and they were finished the writing process by the following year.

The story involves two war veterans reminiscing about their past, looking back from their teenage years to their days on the front line, and how their friendship stood the test of time through it all. Tickets are on sale now on The Exchange Theatre website for both shows, Friday 11th and Saturday 12th November.
