North London derby fan punched on to tracks as Arsenal and Tottenham fans clash at Finsbury Park station

A football fan was almost killed after being punched in the face and falling on to a live railway line as Arsenal and Tottenham hooligans clashed on a platform.

Arsenal fans celebrating their triumphant 2-0 away victory over Spurs were filmed brawling with their fierce rivals at Finsbury Park Station.

At one moment a football fan is punched in the side of the head and falls dramatically onto the overground rail at around 8pm on January 15.

He is quickly pulled back to safety of the platform where he continues to brawl with fans. Police said it could “easily” have been a murder investigation.

The footage appears to show cans of beer being thrown at the victim as he attempts to flee to safety.

Another man breaks free from the crowd and sprints at the unlucky fan but falls over before he can grab the victim again.

British Transport Police (BTP) have now released phone footage of the brawl in a bid to trace those involved in the hooligan violence.

A BTP Spokesman said: “During the fight, a man was punched to the side of the head which caused him to fall onto the tracks.”

Sgt Ben Roberts added: “We have absolutely zero tolerance for football related violence on the railway network, and treat incidents like this extremely seriously.

“Had a train been pulling in at the time we could easily have been dealing with a murder investigation – so it’s vital we identify those responsible so we can take action.”

Anyone who recognises those in the video are asked to contact police by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 2300005066.
