The North Las Vegas Police Department is grieving the loss of one of its officers following a tragic shootout that also resulted in the death of a male suspect. The department took to Facebook to express their profound sadness over the incident, emphasizing the dedication and bravery exhibited by law enforcement officers in serving and protecting the community.
The unfortunate event unfolded at approximately 2:13 p.m. when officers responded to a report of an individual brandishing a firearm at another person. Despite commands from the responding officers, the suspect fled the scene on foot. Subsequently, an officer located the armed suspect and instructed him to show his hands, leading to an exchange of gunfire between the two parties.

During the confrontation, the officer sustained multiple gunshot wounds but managed to return fire, ultimately striking the suspect. Both the officer and the suspect were transported to a nearby hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries. Law enforcement personnel from various agencies gathered outside the hospital to pay their respects, and a solemn procession was held as the officer's body was transferred to the Clark County coroner's office.
While the identities of the officer and the suspect have not been disclosed, a spokesperson for the North Las Vegas Police Department indicated that the name of the fallen officer is expected to be released later today. This incident marks the first officer-involved shooting for the North Las Vegas Police Department, underscoring the inherent risks faced by law enforcement officers in the line of duty.
