The 2022 Read Well NL Challenge is encouraging locals to read for just six minutes per day to help improve their wellbeing.
Research shows that regular reading has a positive effect on health and wellbeing, and those who read are less stressed as it helps reduce anxiety and depression.
So, the organisation launched the challenge - which started last Monday - to encourage locals to reap the rewards of reading.
Library staff want residents to sign up with all participants entered into a prize draw to win £50 of book tokens as an added incentive.
Mary Wilson, mental health officer at North Lanarkshire Council, commented on the challenge and benefits of reading: "I absolutely love reading and agree that it is great for stress.
"I have also noticed that I de-stress from the moment I walk into a library. I feel so relaxed.
" This challenge is a great way to help residents introduce reading to their daily routine."
Participants can sign up for free by visiting a North Lanarkshire library or visiting www.culturenl.co.uk/read-well-nl
