North Lanarkshire Council shows its support for Living Wage Week

North Lanarkshire Council has shown its support for Living Wage Week.

The week highlights and celebrates employers who are already accredited and encourages other organisations to join.

This year the UK-wide real Living Wage rate increased from £9.90 to £10.90. This is the largest ever increase in the rate (10.1 per cent), providing a significant pay boost to thousands of workers and their families.

Councillor Ayeshah Khan, NLC’s Convener of Enterprise and Fair Work, said: “As the only wage rate calculated based on living costs, the real Living Wage is more important now than ever.

“In Scotland over 59,000 staff working for more than 2,900 accredited employers have received an uplift to the real Living Wage since the campaign began.

“Across Lanarkshire, 5765 workers have been uplifted to the real Living Wage by 254 accredited Living Wage employers.”

Councillor Khan was joined by Living Wage employers including, VANL, ACS Clothing, Employability Services, Clarke Fire Protection Products Ltd at the Civic Centre in Motherwell to promote Living Wage Week 2022.

Being a Living Wage employer offers a range of business benefits including enhancing the quality of work and staff, a positive impact on the employers reputation and reducing sickness absence rates.
