North Lanarkshire Council is to establish a voucher scheme to help small businesses endure rising energy costs.
Paid for using some of the council’s COVID recovery funding, the energy audit voucher scheme will provide qualifying small to medium enterprises with up to £2500 in financial support.
These businesses can use this funding to undergo an energy audit which will identify where large amounts of energy are being used and provide guidance on how to be more energy efficient.
The scheme was unanimously approved by NLC’s Enterprise and Fair Work committee at a recent meeting.
Businesses wishing to apply for the scheme must be based in commercial (not home-based) premises within North Lanarkshire and have no more than 250 employees.
In cases where capital investment is required to enact recommendations made during the energy audit, council officers will work with these businesses to identify potential sources of funding from the council and elsewhere for example NLC’s business recovery and growth fund which can provide up to 50 per cent of such costs, up to £50,000 over a two year period.
