Greenwich nightclub Studio 338 is branching out, and has announced the launch of its own Release LDN record label.
The North Greenwich club space first opened its doors back in 2014, and has since played host to hugely popular parties like Sankeys, Space Ibiza, and Cafe Mambo. As well as bringing some Balariac sunshine to London with its absolutely whopping terrace, the focus here is mostly on house and techno; much of it with Ibiza leanings.
Also championing these genres, the club’s long-running night Release LDN is a trusted highlight, putting on the likes of underground techno legends Marco Carola and Nicole Moudaber along the way. With its name firmly placed in the minds of party-goers, already, an accompanying record label of the same name seems the next logical step, you have to admit.
Release LDN kick things off with a new EP from club regular Syncia, out today. According to the label, it “explores the outer limits of house, techno, garage, bass and jungle.”
Studio 338’s creative director Dan Perrin says the move towards opening a label is all about wanting to big up London talent in general: “The Release LDN label has really grown out of the parties at Studio 338 , with a schedule of EPs [planned] from residents and regulars such as Syncia, Nancy, Hypoxia and Dense & Pika, all of whom live in London. This gives a uniquely “local” sound to the label with the tracks all drawing heavily garage, jungle, bass and techno,” he explains.
He continues: “The label has been in planning for a couple of years while we gathered new music, put our Release crew together and really refined the sound of the party. We now have an arsenal of tracks ready to roll, which we’re very excited to share. This is music inspired by, conceived of and road-tested on the Studio 338 dancefloor by a close knit set of artists. We are always searching for music that pushes boundaries and surprises and in the likes of Syncia, Nancy, Hypoxia and more we have a new generation of creativity in dance music.“
News of the label’s establishment offers cause for celebration, while a whole summer’s-worth of parties continue at their Greenwich venue. House DJ John Digweed, the techno duo Dense & Pika and German producer Lilly Palmer will all grace the decks for party-goers in the capital at various points.
This comes as the club celebrates ten years of pioneering events at their unique space. Over the years, Studio 338 has faced some serious challenges; in 2016, the club was completely gutted by a devastating fire, and a member of the team was tragically killed by the blaze.
Release LDN will also play a special role in the club’s milestone anniversary celebrations, kicking off with their Day and Night festival with Lilly Palmer.
