North East weather: Hour-by-hour forecast for Thursday and Friday according to the Met Office

A yellow weather warning for snow remains across Newcastle and its surrounding areas until Friday, with further blankets set to fall in the coming days.

Tomorrow's outlook is cloudy from start to finish, with some light rain mid-afternoon as the skies become overcast. Snowfall is expected between 4pm and 5pm with sleet cascading down later in the evening.

And as Friday rolls around it's a similar picture in the morning, with light snow showers expected until midday. However, the thick clouds will soon start to disperse, making way for sunny intervals in the afternoon. Broader highs of 5C and lows of -1C are expected to accompany.

The Met Office said: "Cold and frosty initially, with cloud building from the south and occasional snow showers along coastlines. Snow, sleet and rain spread northeastwards towards midday, with wintry outbreaks continuing overnight.

"Maximum temperature 4 °C."
