North East weather: Hour-by-hour forecast for Friday and Saturday according to the Met Office

Everyone in the North East will be glad to see the back of downpours which have plagued the week so far, as a somewhat drier weekend rolls in.

While the Met Office's yellow weather warning for rain will remain in place until around 7am on Friday, any remaining showers in Newcastle should have cleared up by 9am - making way for a miserable but not wet day across the board.

Clouds are expected from sunrise to sunset, but the chance of precipitation drops substantially to 10% for much of the day. Highs of 10C and lows of 7C are expected.

And an overcast Saturday is also on the cards according to experts, who predict a marginal chance of rain in the morning due to dark grey clouds hovering above the region.

The official Met Office forecast for Friday is: "Staying unsettled on Friday, with persistent rain, heavy at times, especially during the morning. Rain easing and turning more showery through the day, before clearing by the evening. Less windy. Maximum temperature 10°C."
