North East weather forecast for Sunday and Monday according to the Met Office

While many residents across the North East will be hoping to wave goodbye to this week's dull weather, the forecast as next week rolls in is no better.

Sunday looks like heavy rain from start to finish across Newcastle upon Tyne, albeit the grey clouds will change to white momentarily in the afternoon. We're in for a couple of dry hours between 3pm and 4pm, but then normal service will resume in the evening, with more heavy downpours expected around tea time.

And although the beginning of next week seems a little drier, the miserable aura of thick black clouds will continue to set the tone on Tyneside come Monday - with highs of 7C and lows of 4C anticipated respectively.

The official Met Office forecast for tomorrow, is: " Mainly cloudy with scattered occasionally heavy showers, these wintry over high ground, and perhaps some limited brighter intervals. Feeling especially cold along the coast with the brisk easterly wind. Maximum temperature 8 °C.

The outlook for next week, is: "Cold through this period with bitter winds, easterly becoming northerly. Often cloudy with showers throughout, these becoming increasingly heavy and frequent. Showers wintry over high ground, perhaps lower levels Wednesday."
