North East weather forecast for Monday and Tuesday according to the Met Office

While many North East residents will be hopeful that this weekend's downpours will be the end of the bad weather for a while, the showers are unfortunately expected to bleed into the start of next week.

Monday's Met Office outlook shows overcast skies from start to finish, with precipitation early in the morning and late in the afternoon. Miserable temperatures between 6C and 4C are expected to accompany.

And while the skies will begin to clear on Tuesday, there is still a substantial chance of rain around midday and in the early afternoon. It's looking like a dry start and finish though, with forecasters anticipating going forward into the rest of the week that showers will dissipate all together.

The official Met Office forecast for tomorrow, is: " Showers continuing through much of Monday, especially for coastal parts. Showers may be briefly heavy, turning wintry over the Cheviots and Pennines. Still breezy but easing later. Feeling cold. Maximum temperature 7 °C."

The outlook for next week, is: "Increasingly cold but rather dry period away from coasts, where showers may linger, these wintry later. Sunnier later but with a risk of icy patches. Light to moderate northerly winds."
