North East weather: An hour-by-hour forecast for Wednesday and Thursday

People across the North East may have to dig out their raincoats for later this week.

Wednesday morning is expected to be bright with hazy sunshine. However there will be a cloudier start over high ground, where the odd spot of drizzle is possible.

The Met Office said: "Showery rain will make erratic northeastwards progress, arriving late afternoon. Becoming windy." The temperature in the area is set to reach a maximum of 13 °C.

Forecasters predict that Thursday will be unsettled with bands of heavy rain. There will be an associated risk of thunderstorms pushing erratically northeastwards, interspersed with clearer spells.
