Thousands of Newcastle council house tenants to be hit with 7% rent hike as action promised on damp and mould
Council house tenants in Newcastle will be hit by a 7% hike in their rent bills.
City decision-makers agreed on Monday to impose the major cost increase for thousands of renters living in Your Homes Newcastle (YHN) properties, in another blow to people struggling with the cost of living crisis.
Residents affected by the changes are expected to see average increases in their weekly rent costs of between £5 and £6.60 from April, while service charges and garage rentals also being put up by 7% too.
Parents tribute to Morpeth three-year-old who died after leukaemia diagnosis
The parents of toddler who died after being diagnosed with leukaemia have paid a tribute to their little girl who "could walk in a room and light it up".
Summer Louise O'Hare was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) on February 11 last year and started to receive intense chemotherapy.
Her parents, Ashley and Leanne, from Morpeth, Northumberland, were later told their little girl would need to have a stem cell transplant which took place in June.

A couple who discovered their puppy had destroyed their cup final tickets will be able to collect new ones from Wembley.
Toon fans Alan Carling and his wife Jessica, from Longbenton, attended the match against Liverpool at St James' Park on Saturday.
When they returned home, they realised their tickets for the Carabao Cup final at Wembley had been delivered and their 11-month-old Golden Retriever Rudy had shredded them to pieces.
Narrow 2-1 win as centuries old Shrove Tuesday football match returns to Alnwick
The annual Shrove Tuesday football match returned to the fields in the shadow of Alnwick Castle, having gone ahead since the late 1800s.
St Michael's Parish won 2-1 against St. Paul's Parish, in a game with "virtually no rules".
After the game ended, some of the competitors jumped into the cold waters of the River Aln.
