North East to experience mixed weather as sunny spells and rain forecast heading into weekend

It might be an idea to pack an umbrella for the rest of this week as the Met Office have forecast both sunny spells and rain in the North East.

The leading meteorologists have forecast near normal temperatures for this time of year, with the mercury set to hit a chilly maximum of 8°C. Mixed conditions are likely to be on their way with rain forecast most days over the course of the week, heading into the weekend.

The Met Office did forecast some sunny spells throughout the week with the brighter skies likely to be saved for the weekend.

The Met Office have forecast the following conditions for Thursday (November 24): "A chilly and bright start, before a band of rain, locally heavy and squally, moves quickly eastwards during the afternoon, clearing by evening. Temperatures will be near normal. Maximum temperature 8°C."

It would be best to pack for any eventuality weather-wise this weekend with wind, sunny spells and rain all likely to be a feature in what looks set to be a tempestuous end to the week.

The Met Office have forecast these conditions for Friday to Sunday: "Largely dry with sunny spells Friday, after a chilly start. Dry at first Saturday, before wet and windy weather arrives later.

"Rain probably clearing to drier and brighter skies Sunday."

They added: "Sunday is likely to bring a continuation of unsettled conditions, with blustery, occasionally heavy showers and sunny spells, with any showers most frequent in the northwest.

"Winds perhaps lighter than Saturday initially, but increasingly windy again under around any showers."
