North tech firm Filtronic has announced its first significant contract worth £600,000 with a new customer.
The firm, which makes products for markets including defence, telecoms infrastructure and critical comms markets, said the new contract win is with a leading global provider of low latency private networks. Filtronic said the deal is valued at $800,000 – £600,000 – with revenue expected to be recognised in FY2024.
The company, which has bases at NETPark in Sedgefield, Yeadon in Leeds and Maryland in the US, will design, development and manufacture high-performance power amplifier modules to be incorporated into next generation point-to-point microwave radios.

The client said it has chosen Filtronic to ensure that best-in-class transmit power and linearity is achieved in their planned network upgrade, by leveraging Filtronic’s proven expertise in radio modules.
Richard Gibbs, chief executive officer, said: “We are delighted to secure the first significant order with this customer having successfully completed a smaller development with them in the last calendar year. We look forward to working with the customer on this project and building on the relationship.”
In February the company said growing demand in the global aerospace and defence markets helped to lift half-year revenues by 5% to £8.4m, saying the rest of the year will be dictated by the global semiconductor shortage. Investments into sales channels and engineering led to lower operating profit of £500,000, down from £700,000.
