North East shoppers make early morning dash to Aldi as highly anticipated Prime drink goes on sale

Eager shoppers made an early morning dash to Aldi stores to pick up the viral Prime Hydration Drink.

Created by YouTube stars KSI and Logan Paul, the drink was available as an Aldi 'specialbuy' on December 29.

There were reports of parents heading to stores in Alnwick, Gateshead and South Shields before the doors opened to try and get their hands on the drink.

Across the UK, pictures showed parents and children queueing before the doors opened, while shoppers could be seen making a mad-dash for the drink when stores opened.

The hydration drink has been hugely popular in the UK since launching, thanks to the millions of fans of both KSI and Logan Paul.

KSI, also a charting musician, is one of the country's most notable stars among younger people and is part of the UK YouTube group 'The Sidemen', while Logan Paul is a US YouTube star - both have millions of subscribers and fans across the globe.

Aldi announced earlier this week that it would be stocking Prime for the first time from Thursday, for just £1.99. The supermarket chain warned that demand would be high, SussexLive reports.

Such is the popularity of the viral drink, Aldi limited purchases to "one of each variant per customer" in order to "ensure as many people as possible get the opportunity to buy the product".

The drink, which is 10% coconut water, contains electrolytes and B vitamins and BCAAs, has zero sugar and around 20 calories per bottle.

Aldi shoppers could choose from three different flavours: Blue Raspberry, Lemon and Lime, and Ice Pop.
