North East hour-by-hour weather forecast for Wednesday and Thursday according to the Met Office

As we edge ever closer to winter, you may have felt a recent shift in the weather getting colder across the North East.

And while things may be getting chilly, Wednesday will be mainly dry apart from a scattering of light showers in the morning and later on in the day. Meanwhile, the sun will come out on Thursday but temperatures won't reach past 13°C.

The Met Office said heavy rain could soak the region as we head further into the week and warned Friday will be windy with gales over the hills. Speaking in the Met Office Week Ahead forecast, Meteorologist and Presenter Aidan McGivern said: "There will be outbreaks of rain, heavy at times, for western Scotland and Northern Ireland pushing into northern and western England as well as Wales. The rain tends to fizzle into showers further south and it’ll stay largely dry in the southeast through Wednesday with some sunny spells.

"It’ll be a blustery day for all on Friday and even though there’s some uncertainties about the position of the low pressure, what’s most likely is low-pressure to the north, a brisk westerly airflow and a number of showers."
