Newcastle is known for its arts with the BALTIC and Laing Art Gallery among two of the popular destinations people head for when visiting the city.
However, for some people simply visiting galleries and appreciating the art on display isn't quite enough. They'd rather be surrounded by paintings, stained glass and stunning architectural features from years gone by.

Jesmond Dene House, in the east end of Newcastle, was named alongside a hotel designed by Scottish icon Charles Rennie Mackintosh and a tranquil inn with an on-site chapel as a must-stay for art lovers. The hotel, which overlooks one of the city's favourite green spaces, Jesmond Dene, has original artwork scattered throughout, while its interior design is inspired by the surroundings gardens and park.
The Grade II listed building opened as the city's first independently-owned boutique hotel in 2005, and is now a popular spot not only for overnight stays, but afternoon tea and food too - with its Fern Dining Room headed up by MasterChef: The Professionals finalist Danny Parker.
Of Jesmond Dene House, the Guardian wrote: "Largely created by Norman Shaw in 1871 for a local arms manufacturer, this mansion showcases British Arts and Crafts at its most exuberant with its panelling, plasterwork, stone carvings and stained glass; a glorious historical mashup. Now a hotel in Newcastle’s smartest residential area, like all key Arts and Crafts houses it’s surrounded by a large garden."
