North East fish and chip shops go head-to-head to find best in the region - vote for your favourite

It's often considered Britain's national dish - so wherever you get your fish and chips, you're bound to have some strong opinions on what the best chippy is where you live.

To determine once and for all which restaurant in the North East serves up the very best of the battered classic, ChronicleLive has put together a poll of places around the region that have earned rave reviews from customers over the years. You can vote for your favourite from our shortlist of venues in Newcastle across to North and South Tyneside, as well as popular spots in Northumberland, Durham and Sunderland.

The list includes Fenham Fish Bar and Chip & Fish in Newcastle as well as Throckley's Dhillons Fish Inn, while over in North Tyneside you can vote for Pantrini's or Fisherman's Bay in Whitley Bay, Longsands Fish Kitchen in Tynemouth, or The Waterfront in North Shields. Up the coast in Northumberland you can cast your vote for Harbour View in Seaton Sluice or Coastline Fish and Chips in Blyth.

In South Tyneside there's Colmans in South Shields to vote for if this is your go-to destination for fish and chips in the region, while down in Sunderland you can choose Downey's Fish & Chips Pavilion as your favourite. And finally, Bells Fish Restaurant in Durham and Consett's Golden Fish Inn are on the list too.

Plenty of these venues have hit the headlines in recent months after being nationally recognised as among the best chippies in the country. Several were crowned winners of the Good Food Award for fish and chips last year, while Fisherman's Bay in Whitley Bay scooped an award as one of the UK's top 10 chippies just last month.

Fisherman's Bay was also shortlisted in January as one of ten finalists to win Takeaway of the Year at the 2023 National Fish & Chip Awards. Meanwhile, earlier this week Hairy Biker Si King was full of praise for Harbour View after becoming a regular visitor to the Seaton Sluice venue.

Alternatively, if your number one chippy isn't on the list you can choose the 'Other' option at the bottom and let us know your go-to venue in the comments below. Vote for your favourite fish & chip shop here:
